Oh, yoga—where do we begin to count all the ways we love you so? A nurturing practice for body and mind, yoga workouts are often our go-to for days when we feel we want to slow things down, connect to our breath, and challenge our balance, stability, and mobility in new and creative ways.
But not every yoga workout is created equally. Nor should it be! Yoga comes in all forms and styles, making it a widely accessible modality for various fitness levels. The tricky part can be finding the type of yoga that best suits your needs and where you’re at in your journey.
Luckily, at obé we’ve done the hard work for you by expertly curating three types of yoga workouts, all designed to optimize your physical and mental well-being as a complement to your holistic fitness routine. Here, we tapped obé instructor Nicole U.—who helped craft the new yoga offerings at obé—to give you a definitive guide to them all.
“There’s something for everyone,” she explains, “from Yoga Fundamentals for beginners who want an explanation of how to practice certain postures to Power Yoga for the advanced movers seeking a high-energy practice.” And whatever your level, you’ll always find an option to suit your schedule: obé offers online yoga classes that range from 10 to 45 minutes.
Fundamentals: Beginner-friendly Yoga Workouts for Beginners
By now, most of us have heard about the many physical and mental benefits of yoga workouts. From improving strength and balance to easing back pain and helping you better cope with stress, there’s a lot to gain from a weekly practice. But knowing where to start can be (understandably) intimidating. The names and orders of poses, the breathing techniques, and the new ways of moving your body can all feel like a lot.
In the obé Yoga Fundamentals classes (like this one), our instructors move at a slower pace, break down the “how-to” to perform certain poses, and guide you on using props like yoga blocks or stretch straps. Expect a gentle flowing sequence focused on foundational poses that build strength and endurance, plus slowly improve flexibility. This is your base for all things yoga.
One hot tip? “For newer yogis, we encourage you to start small with short sessions that are more manageable and accessible,” says Nicole U. Don’t feel like a 10-minute beginner yoga session doesn’t ‘count’! Little by little, you’ll build the foundation for a strong, sustainable practice.
Take it if: You’re new to yoga, you’re intimidated to try yoga because you don’t consider yourself flexible or mobile, or you want to move at a slower pace. It’s also a great option for yogis with limitations or those recovering from an injury.
Typical flow: 5-minute warmup, 10-minute sun salutation, 10-minute flow, 3-minute closing.
Vinyasa: Accessible, Open-level Yoga Practice
Sometimes, we turn to yoga for a moving meditation—a way to declutter our mind, ease into the present moment, and focus on our breath. But it’s also a great way to work out and level up your physical fitness! And that’s where Vinyasa Yoga on obé really shines.
Derived from the Sanskrit term nyasa, which means “to place,” and the prefix vi, “in a special way,” the term “vinyasa” means the deliberate linking of poses (aka asanas) with breath. Take this open-level, accessible option (like this class) if you’re ready for flowing sequences with dynamic transitions between poses that deliver a full-body workout. You’ll target cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and strength—which will all boost your workout performance, whatever class you take.
“We incorporate core strengthening poses to improve body awareness and enhance balancing postures throughout the class,” explains Nicole U. Plus, you may be introduced to some fun arm balances to take things to the next level.
Take it if: You treat your yoga time more like a workout and want to incorporate a little more physical challenge while still tapping into breath and mindfulness. Perfect for the intermediate level and beyond. It’s also pre- and post-natal friendly with modifications.
Typical flow: 5-minute warmup, 20-minute sun salutations OR 10-minute sun salutation + 10-minute warrior and balance flow, 3-minute closing with savasana as needed.
Power Yoga: Advanced Yoga Workouts to Challenge You
Finally, if you’re ready to tap into your inner warrior, Power Yoga is a great choice for you. While other forms of yoga may focus more on breath, mindfulness, or a specific set of fixed postures, power yoga is specifically designed to be more vigorous and athletic. The sequences of poses may vary, but the workouts are crafted to boost cardiovascular health and improve muscle strength. You’ll move quickly, with poses connecting together in one seamless flow.
“Expect energetic, dynamic sequences that emphasize endurance, flexibility, and strength,” explains Nicole. In addition to the core-strengthening poses you’d find in a Vinayasa flow, you’ll also take on plyometrics and various conditioning exercises. This 45-minute class, which takes you through a lunge series, sun salutations, push ups and core work, crow pose, and more is a great example. It’s going to get sweaty!
Take it if: You want to be challenged by a more athletic, fast-paced form of yoga workouts that are more physically demanding—and incredibly rewarding. It’s part cardio, part strength building.
Typical flow: 5-minute warmup, 20-minute progressive sun salutations and flow, 2-minute closing, 1-minute savasana.

Additional obé Yoga Offerings
At obé, we always want you to find your thing. And we also believe that yoga is a super beneficial addition to anyone’s wellness and fitness practice. Here, we list a few additional options to find your yoga match—because there is so much to learn from it.
“Yoga has changed the way i approach movement and working out,” says Nicole. “It helped me shatter the belief of ‘no pain, no gains.’ Yes, you will feel challgened, and maybe out of breath, but every movement practice should be rooted in mindful breathing, alignment, and getting stronger—it should be healing.”
Express Salutations: If you’re a more experienced mover who is new to yoga, this is a great option for you. These 10-minute sessions explain how to perform a classic sun salutation A variation and sun salutation B variation to help you build up your skillset.
Recover + Restore Yoga: Our philosophy? Work hard, recover harder! These classes support your overall movement quality and prevent future injuries by giving your body TLC. You’ll be guided through restorative poses, breathwork, and mobility work to alleviate soreness, boost circulation, and optimize recovery. Go for this option if you’re feeling burnt out, are nursing an injury, need pre- or post-natal support, or are in dire need of stress relief. It’s also a perfect supplement for athletes and advanced movers who specifically want to level up their mobility and flexibility.
Fusion Class Flows: We love a class combo. These options combine other popular obé class types, like Strength or Power, with a yoga sequence to get the best of both worlds. The classes in the obé Age Well Collection are a perfect example.
Yoga Training Programs: Besides single class offerings, we also have a structured yoga workout programs for those looking to deepen their practice—or build it up for the first time. For the new yogis, the 4-week Yoga Essentials program teaches essential vinyasa poses with 3 weekly classes, each 28 minutes long. For the more advanced, the 3-week Yoga Deep Dive guides you through 5 weekly classes (each an hour long) progressing through different chakras for a deeper knowledge of mind, body, and spirit.
