She’s bananas in the box. She has superwoman strength. And she has some of the best “mom dances” around.

But there’s one thing you may not know about Melody D.: She’s also a tireless advocate for those whose lives have been affected by autism. In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, Melody teaching a live 45-minute Power + Strength class on Friday, April 22 at 9am ET (featuring a surprise guest or two! 😉).

“As the mother of a daughter on the spectrum, I’m grateful for this opportunity to spread awareness via obé,” Melody tells us. She’s connected with other obé members who’ve also been affected by autism in different degrees—whether their children, family members, friends, co-workers, or they themselves are on the spectrum—so she knows this cause is close to many of our hearts!

Her main goal is talking about autism: “My hope is to shed light on the disorder and how it does not make those diagnosed any less than, lacking in a specific quality, or incapable,” Melody says. “Individuals on the spectrum see the world differently, they feel the world differently, and sometimes it can be difficult to bridge that gap of understanding.”

“As an advocate for someone who I love more than anything, my hope is that, through constant communication and open conversation, we can destigmatize what it means to be ‘autistic’ and work to accept the distinctive behaviors and unique communication styles that make these individuals so incredibly special.”

To learn how you can help advance awareness of autism, volunteer, or donate, Melody recommends looking into these incredible organizations—click the links to learn more!
