Train with intention. Move with purpose. Get stronger on purpose.

Q&A With Laison D.

Getting Started

Let’s start from the beginning—how did you get into fitness?

I came into fitness through the military—ten years as a Master Fitness Trainer. That’s where I learned that how you train people matters just as much as what you train them to do.

After my service, I spent time in field engineering. At the same time, I kept coaching on the side. So I was always running drills, helping people move better, and staying connected to fitness.

Eventually, I made it official and went all in on group fitness, personal training, and program development.

Training Style

What kind of training can we expect from your classes?

Functional strength, HIIT, and conditioning—training that actually translates to real life.

My background is performance-based, but what I care about most is meeting people where they are and helping them build from there. So whether you’re just getting started or leveling up, the goal stays the same: progress with purpose.

How would you describe your coaching style?

Intentional and energetic.

I don’t just cue exercises—I coach mindset. I want you to feel like what you’re doing matters. So while there’s structure in every class, there’s also real connection. I’m right there with you in it.

You’re not just checking a box—you’re building something.

Outside the Workout

What should the obé community know about you outside of fitness?

I’m a dad. I’m engaged to my best friend. I’ve got a creative side—writing, design—and I’m always evolving.

I’m from Brooklyn, and that shapes how I show up: grounded, driven, real. I love to run races, travel with my family, and keep growing in every area of life.

Mindset & Motivation

What motivates you to keep showing up?

My kids—and the version of myself I’m still becoming.

I’ve learned that consistency is one of the most powerful things you can build. You don’t wait for the perfect moment—you create it. That’s something I bring into every class.

What can members expect to feel after taking your class?

Like they did something that matters.

You’ll feel stronger, more focused, and more confident in what your body can do. Not just physically—but mentally, too.

What does “getting stronger” mean to you?

It’s not just about lifting heavier.

It’s about staying humble, being patient with yourself, and recognizing that growth takes time. Strength is physical, but it’s also mental—showing up, staying consistent, and not quitting on yourself.

What’s your advice for someone just getting started?

Stop waiting to feel ready.

You probably won’t. Just start. Show up imperfect, stay consistent, and let the process work. That’s where real change happens.
